I'm currently using 2 Konami soft pads (the one's the come with Max2 and Extreme bundle). They worked perfectly. Eventually both mats had problems with the down button. Basically they wouldn't work during play except when you're hitting 8th notes or faster with the down button included. But they work perfect in the menus and song selection. Why does it only not work in certain situation? |

Yeah I think this is probably similar to the problems many people have. I personally have ordered some cheap ignition pads from innex on ebay and after a while experienced basically what you described... and I figured out that what's happening is the down button only works when none of the other buttons are being pressed. Thus, when you're at the main menu and are only using one foot to select, it works fine. During slow songs, you keep your foot down after hitting a note, so pressing the down button with your other foot does nothing. When the notes get faster, you may lift your other foot before you hit the down button, causing it to work. You get major problems when hitting two buttons at once, if it involves the down button. Perhaps this is what is happening to you.
I believe the main cause of this is when you don't store/transport your pads flat, or leaning them upright (in the case of ignitions). |

I haven't really figured out how to fix it once it has happened ... other people have tried opening up the sensor part of the pad, to varying degrees of success. I'd say you probably need new pads, but perhaps try skimming through the redoctane ignition / BNS DX ignition thread (although posting about your problem in there may be frowned upon). |

because it is a soft pad as i have said before unless you know alot aabout the product (i.e. u built it) dont mess w/ the soft ones. because the sensors are within the fabric even if you did manage to get to the sensor and repair it u have a gaping hole in your pad that could not be fixed easy and tape would most likely be your solution but the sensor is still semi exposed.
my recomendation is get a new pad. |

The X button registers as the DOWN arrow during gameplay. One foot may be on the X button, preventing you from hitting the DOWN button in the song. Try turning off Dance Play in the Option menu. If you have the American version of Dance Dance Revolution EXTREME, you can't turn it off because it was locked from that version. If turning off Dance Play doesn't solve the problem with the DOWN arrow, you may need new pads. If the pads were purchased recently, you may exchange them for working pads. You can also try waiting for EXTREME 2 and purchase it only to return the bundle because the pad was defective; I did that last year with EXTREME. I thought I was going to have the last laugh until I actually played EXTREME. _________________
