I'm guessing it's suppose to tell you that your step is early or late, but I don't know for sure. _________________

That's precisely what it means.
The dash in front of an Excellent, Great, Decent or Way Off step indicates on which side of the beat you were on when you stepped. If the dash is on the left, you stepped early; if it's to the right, you stepped late. _________________

Yeah. Also, Way Offs are now displayed as "Way Early" or "Way Late". |

I noticed this on Novice mode (and it applies to Decents in Novice mode too), but I didn't notice the change on Expert.

WAY EARLY means you were quite early to step, duh.
WAY LATE means you were quite late to step, duh.
-BLAHBLAHBLAH means that you were too early. If you hit it later, you would of got a fantastic/better rating.

Yeah, and it's totally useless in my opinion too. I just notice that a lot of my excellents are early and my greats are late. _________________

I'm usually looking at the stationary arrows up top or the rating/combo area. I'm usually looking at the latter more.
However, it still doesn't help at all. _________________

Does the direction that the judgement tilts mean anything? When I noticed on ITG1 that all the non-Fantastic judgements were tilted either clockwise or counterclockwise by various amounts, I just assumed that one direction was early and the other direction was late, with the amount of tilt telling you how early or late... but that was just as guess. Was I wrong? _________________

I think it was just a gimmick for aesthetic purposes like how the MISS thing tilts if you get off the pad. _________________

The - grading isn't something I can constantly pay attention to, but it gives me a better idea of whether the song is early or late, so yes it's helpful. |
