Does anyone here use Xfire? If so, why doesn't rc2a show up? What I've been doing is just opening up CVS, then minimizing it so that it still shows up. Does anyone else have this problem?

It's like AIM for online games, you can send messages to friends that are playing games without disrupting them, and also if you have the same game (this is the best part), simply right-click on your friends name and click join and it will start the game for you and automatically go into the server that they are playing on. It supports tons of online games like CS, but it also supports games that you wouldn't think it would, like Gunbound and SM.

Yeah, that just about sums it up, but you forgot about in-game. On certain games (pretty much all of the major ones), if you get an IM while you're playing, you can press Scroll Lock + X and it'll pop up in this little window, without disturbing the game or anything. It's really useful if you're into the whole online gaming thing.

As for Stepmania, it worked with all my alphas, but then I upgraded to rc2 for SMOnline and it doesn't show up anymore. I was just wondering if anyone else had this problem, and like what you've done to fix it.

P.S. www.xfire.com if you'd like more information, they have an FAQ there that tells a lot about it.

E15.gif I didn't forget it, I just didn't go into detail about it. That is kinda weird that RC2 doesn't show up but the others do though.

Xfire is great. It works with stepmania fully now. We just have to wait for SMO. Give it a few more updates E1.gif

Revival of a long-dead thread = no good.

omg.. you guys didnt did you?
X-Fire is a massive trojan.
I downloaded it and in 3 days, McAfee caught X-Fire traveling through all my files and slowing down my computer. All my files... had the word X-Fire in it. I had to trash my old (really friggen expensive disgust.gif ) computer and get this new one.. then i searched on the internet (which i should of done in the first place.) to find out it really is a trojan virus.

If you are planning on getting it, don't. It ruins a computer in 3 days or less.

If you have it... sucks to be you.. you'll probably notice stuff in a few days.. if not.. you must have some good protection against something like that.

Well, since the thread has already been bumped...

One of my friends doesn't use it because he heard of that, but I have been using it for about 5 months now with no problems (I use 2 or 3 different kinds of Norton, Ad-Aware, and Spybot S&D), and one of my friends has been using it for at least a year, no problems.

Sorry for your one bad experience, but it's workin great for us.

EDIT: After rereading your post, I saw this:
Quote:

Must not be the same Xfire we're using, because the one we're using doesn't have a hyphen E13.gif

It's not a trojan if you download it from the xfire site. If you download thru some P2P program than yeah you'll get crap. The only thing it downloads is a Xfire wallpaper and thats a test, and its also stated on the website that its a test. I'm pretty sure it only downloads it once unless they do another test.

For those of you having problems still with XFire and RC2 not showing up:

Go into your ua_plugin.ini and look for the following:

Code:

[4335]
LongName=Stepmania CVS
ShortName=smania
Icon=smania.ico
LauncherDirKey=HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\StepMania\StepMania CVS\
LauncherExe=program\StepMania.exe
Launch=%UA_LAUNCHER_EXE_PATH% %UA_LAUNCHER_NETWORK_ARGS%
CanBeUpForGame=FALSE

Change it to this:

Code:

[4335]
LongName=Stepmania CVS
ShortName=smania
Icon=smania.ico
LauncherDirKey=HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\StepMania\StepMania\
LauncherExe=program\StepMania.exe
Launch=%UA_LAUNCHER_EXE_PATH% %UA_LAUNCHER_NETWORK_ARGS%
CanBeUpForGame=FALSE

The directory is all that changed since it's no longer CVS but RC2. You will have to restart XFire to get this to work properly.
