SN2 had some decent licences. I really like all the sean paul songs that have been in DDR and would like more sean paul because his songs are fun to dance to and really catchy. I think some more mainstream electronica songs would do DDR some good as well. Armin Van Burin, tiesto, scott brown, daft punk, Justice(i believe D.A.N.C.E is on HP2?) and deadmau5 would all be solid choices. and maybe some utada hikaru, please? ehh who am i kidding we'll never see hikki in a didder mix. also wouldn't mind some ayumi hamasaki trance mixes, those could be fun. Theres a lot of different music styles i wish konami would explore in DDR mixes so we can get the kind of variety you see in pump it up. |

I was doing a little more research and found that ddronlinecommunity.com has some more of the songlists for DDR X, 13 licensed and 33 Konami originals (one called xmixes, continuous dj mixes new for DDR X). It says stay tuned for more song list info. |

You have clearly never played Extreme 2. |
'Both of our Extremes' as in DDR Extreme AM and DDR Extreme JP, not DDR Extreme and DDR Extreme 2.

If you were new to this thread, would you read through all 21 pages of "I wish this was in ddr, and not that other junk" posts for a few posts that actually have information? |

I'm coming across as such an oxymoron right now, I bet.
No. I mean that OUR Extreme had, y'know, a decent amount of songs for an AM mix, but THEIR Extreme was almost ARCADE PERFECT (basically). Plus Max.(period). I was meaning to CONTRAST the two, not COMPARE them.
@stuffmonger: I've been reading this thread since the announcement. Just because I haven't posted for the first twenty or so pages doesn't mean that I don't read up on upcoming console games >.> |

"BBBB" and "Hot Limit" were both in XBOX mixes, so unless Konami suddenly decides to break their longstanding rule about licenses within a given region...
But that doesn't explain why we don't have "17 sai", "God of Romance", "Wonda", "Tribal Dance" (a song people over here actually know), "No Limit" (ditto), "Cow Girl" (WANT), "Fantasy" (Melissa's), "Stay", "Justify My Love", "The Centre of the Heart", "Telephone Operator", "Witch Doctor", "Yozora no Muko"...
Also, is there any chance we could start seeing some A Different Drum songs on the non-XBOX games? I'd love to see more from people like The Echoing Green, Neuropa, Echo Image, maybe Cosmicity...
(If I've accidentally mentioned some songs that have already appeared in XBOX mixes, feel free to point them out; since the song lists stopped getting updated a long time ago, I can't keep up with these things.) _________________

I'm not sure about A Different Drum, but Konami is already bringing over at least one person from the Xbox games. Bill Hamel, as I recall, has a song on one of the Xbox games. Although, I believe that song was a license while this song is a Konami Original song...
And I think Harmony Machine is closely related to some of the artists featured on the Xbox games. _________________

Well, I see the traditional "DDR US CS Gripefest" is in full effect this year! Partial songlists are released, picked apart, and deemed unworthy compared to their JP counterparts. Anything not on the PS2 is immediately dismissed. KONAMI HATES US BY PUBLISHING NEW GAMES AND GIVING US A WIDE VARIETY OF CHOICES!
It happens every year, just like clockwork. The games are not judged by their own merits, rather than the characteristics of another terriroty's games. Oy.
I guess I'm weird in the sense that I like US DDR games just as much as the ones I import from Japan, and willing to give each one a chance due to my love for the DDR series and my love for music in general. So I'm looking forward to each of the games being released this year. X for the overhauled experience we should have received years ago, HP2 for its unique flair and willingness to expand on the four-panel set-up, and Universe 3 for the unique songlist the US-developed games always contain.
[/rant]
And now, some thoughts on each:
X
Is it me, or is the license list a bit...undernourished? We got twice as many licenses in SN2 US. Literally if I remember right. 26 last year, and 13 this year? Meh. But on the plus side, bonus points for the classic license revivals (in any incarnation) and the contest winners. They've always been quality. Oh, and screw all y'all. OK Go and MC Hammer as a-ok in my book. They're gonna be FUN songs to play.
The KOs don't look to shabby either. Good stuff from SN2 JP, and promissing new stuff from X AC. Going to be nice to see what the older stuff will be rated.
I'm a bit skeptical on the Xmixes, though. If they resemble the Power Courses from UM4/Universe, they'll border on the disappointing. If they resemble more of the Megamix nature from the JP soundtracks, they'll be much more pleasing to the ear.
HOTTEST PARTY 2
The game looks much better than before. The classic BG vids in the...um...BG, the Mii support, the improved dance routines, all look great. Still not so hot on the character models, but as long as the arrows overlap them, its a minor annoyance.
The songlist is shaping up nicely as well. I really enjoyed last year's list simply by virtue of the good covers and great remixes (my opinion of course, no flaming needed). A solid YAY for Don't You Forget About Me, though its cancelled out by a solid BOO for You're The One That I Want. (And as soon as I saw Call On Me, I knew UG would be haappy.) Here's hoping the KO list either equals or exceeds the quality of the licenses.
UNIVERSE 3
The interface change is welcome, and cements the theory that UNI2 was what UNI1 was supposed to be but with a different song list. Also good to see the addition of Nonstop Mode and Marvelous timing. Always seemed like the Xbox/360 games excelled at trying new things over including the old.
I'll need a larger songlist to determine my feelings on it. Though Eel and 100sec Kitchen Battle make for some interesting additions.
This looks to be a GOOD year for DDR, especially for its 10th anniversary. There's my two cents, anyway. _________________

I have a sneaking suspicion that Konami hasn't released all the licensed songs. 13 licenses would just be waaaay too weird.
Also, look at this:
The title is covered up, but you can see "2008 X-Edit". However, there doesn't seem to be enough space for "Butterfly" or "Dub-I-Dub". Another classic licenses? _________________

Even though I know that it's only a cover and I don't expect this to happen at ALL, wouldn't it be hilarious/awesome if the on-screen dancers did the Call On Me aerobics routine?

<scary important opinion>I doubt it. Most of last year's HP1 KO list bored me to painful tears and quite frankly, KOs aren't as good as they used to be. Whatever (if any) love affair I had with KOs has ended years ago.</scary important opinion>

Keep in mind that its a Japanese screen shot. If that is another classic license, we may or may not see it in the US home version.
I also have a sneaking suspicion that there will be more "2008 X-Edits" of classic songs, and that our game won't see all of them for one reason or another. I gotta be a realist on this one.

I enjoyed a few of them on HP1. Confession, I'm Flying Away, will, and Super Samurai were hella fun. Then again, my taste in music is rather broad and will accept most songs as enjoyable as opposed to a few.
<scary important opinion>The license lists in both SN1 and SN2 US CS were superior to their JP counterparts. How's THAT for controversy?<scary important opinion> _________________

Tch, doesn't Beautiful Mind (Cube::Hard Mix) get any love? That song is awesome, and the full version is pure heaven.

True, but I think there's a special reason Konami hasn't given us the full license list (If they really haven't). . _________________

Nothing personal. I was just pointing out that somebody who HASN'T seen this thread until now would find it really boring to read through the whole thread to get up to date on everything since all the information is spread out between rants and raves. |

& yeah, we don't know the full songlist yet. Again, we don't know any of the crossovers nor hardly any of the SN2 revivals (aside from the SN2 JP CS songs, Poseidon, stealth, switch, & Trust (which HOPEFULLY they'll say which anime it's from, because from the online description they gave us, it made it sound like Trust, the song title). |

THANK YOU. But there's one more thing to add...*changes*
SN2 US had such gems as Wind It Up and Le Freak, while JP had My Favorite Things. Seriously--a SHOWTUNE on DDR? I'm not complaining or anything, it's just odd is all.
SN US's licenses were amazing. Sorry if I offended anyone (I probably have) but I wouldn't be pissed at ALL if the next license announced was, say, Viva La Vida or something by Franz. |

An incredible remix of a showtune with amazing vocals, and I'd like to make the Britney arguement here. Not to mention its steps were somewhat decent _________________

No, I'm not complaining. IRL I'm a theatre buff so I'm HUGE on this song coming here. It's just that it's never even crossed my mind that something from a musical so musical-y as the Sound of Music would go onto DDR...but I bet it's a great cover. I'm not dissing it, it's just that I thought that America would be the first to get showtunes on DDR, seeing as how one theatre in NYC makes an entire street a household name (maybe even the world over!)
