I've **'d Charlene and can get 90%+ on 12s without the bar on my clear-modded CFs. It's either your pad or your technique. If you do fine in the arcade but get lots of misses at home, it's probably your pad. |
To tell you the truth I've never tried many hard songs at the arcade, so I'll try Charlene next time I go. Oh yeah, and for some weird reason out of nowhere yesterday I got 81.xx% on Charlene. I was pretty close to a FC, but I can't seem to score that high now. It's like I'm getting all of these ridiculous misses out of nowhere. On my Flux I step close to the center when I use my heels. Pretty close to the black part on the decal if that makes sense. |

Yeah, definitely try Charlene at the arcade to see if you're stepping wrong or something. Cobalt Fluxes actually tend to be more sensitive than arcade pads. I've only played on one arcade pad whose sensitivity was comparable to the sensitivity of my CFs.

Hmm. Well, I stopped playing DDR/PIU for a few years now. The cause of that, being, at a loss for a pad. Money is of no concern to me, but I won't be spending 600$ on a dance pad (That's for the PS3  I keep hearing about this 'Cobalt Flux'. But, me personally, have never seen a site hosting this pad, or advertising it, as being as great as many of you here claim it to be. So, I'm asking for opinion.

I was looking at a few pads there. Specifically, the TX4000...the first one on that site. Primarily because its all encompassing steel. No plastic. No plexi. No broken arrows, etc, etc. Don't get my wrong, I don't weigh over 140 pounds, but that's a nice incentive. Also, the Night Arcade style one. If you happen to go to that site, its the black one (with bar.) So, with those given, is this 'Cobalt Flux' better than those? The help would be -GREATLY APPRECIATED-. Haha. Thanks fellow DDR fans. I seriously wouldn't go with the TX-4000 or the Night pad.
The only good metal pads are the Cobalt Flux, Nexen, Blueshark or home-built models. The bar on the Night pad is extremely flimsy, and the sensors are not very sensitive. |

Damn I forgot to post the link to Cobalt Flux's site. 
And you may want to consider looking at the Mymybox Blueshark pad also. http://mymybox.com/ddrmbsgxg.html I'm kind of wishing that I had of gotten a Blueshark over my Cobalt Flux because of the sensitivity and arcade feel.
Oh yeah, and the arrows on Cobalt Flux's sink in (kind of like buttons) unlike at the arcades where the Blueshark pads do not. |

Blueshark are out of stock, I suspect they are going to be 349.99 from now on. That's why I ordered CF, cause I can't wait'' |
Yesterday they had the barless Bluesharks in stock. They're probably working on building their 3" Nexen pad with the bar. |

Depends on the pad.
If it uses the standard joystick port to plug into the control box, you should be able to actually plug it into the computer with that, although I can't guarantee it'll work properly.
For the CF, I haven't the foggiest what type of port it has, but USB convertors are so cheap by comparison, it's probably easiest just to buy one of those.

I tried subsituting Red Octane Universal adapters for a pair of Trio Linker Plus, but The Trio Linker's gave me lag (one more lag than the other). So I went back to my Red Octane Universal adapters. |

Have you looked at the Convertor index on Stepmania.com?
It should have some adaptors that work with CF.

How close is the CF to arcade feeling on a scale of 1 to 10?
With or without the mod?
Atm my TX1000 is about dead has lasted me just over a year but the pads are all cracked to hell and doesn't feel very arcadeish so time to buy a new one.
I'm thinking of buying another one in a couple of weeks but im at a cross roads between the CF And the Blueshark.
I was looking at the CF but the blueshark caught my eye cause its spost to feel exactly like the arcade pad Also has a bar for learning new 10-12 footer's step patterns. But I don't know how durable/sensitive the pad/bar is to the cobalt flux.
How close do each of these pads come to sensitivity and feel of arcade but will last a couple years? or for people who own both and can give me their opinion?

With the arcade mod installed it feels like a five for me and without the kit it feels like a one or a two. The arcade mod kit does not feel remotely like the arcade in my opinion, but I'm sure other people on this site are going to tell you otherwise. And without the mod kit the platform is completely flat therefore it feels nothing like the arcade. Oh yeah, and the buttons on a Cobalt Flux sink in like buttons when they are stepped on unlike the Blueshark's solid panels. Now don't get me wrong, the Cobalt Flux isn't an awful pad or anything I just think that you'd prefer the Blueshark since you're looking for the arcade feel. The bar shouldn't really matter though as you can just make your own or use a chair on any barless pad and make it as sturdy as you want. They Blueshark's bar isn't that sturdy even though it has the sturdiest bar on home pads. The Blueshark pad is very durable (perhaps as durable as the Flux) and they will probably both last you for around the same time with proper maintenance and care. The Cobalt Flux isn't the greatest pad ever as most people make it out to be; most people just don't give the new pads a chance. If you have any more questions feel free to ask. |

I'm planning on getting one of these for Christmas with a black arcade mod. I have a few questions.
Is it necessary to build a base mod if I play on carpet? and if I don't, will it completely ruin my flux?
my carpet is pretty flat |

Nah, not unless your carpet is really thick. Even then it would probably take about a year for your base-board to crack. If your carpet is flat it should be fine.
