I never used the bar before my friend totally convinced me that bar raping was okay. And considering that I completely suck, I was willing to take his advice. I try not to anymore, but force of habit gets me. I don't really care if I look stupid. Most people I meet at the arcades are nice anyways. _________________

That's like asking if shadowing someone when you have no intention of playing looks silly or not.
I've had conflicted feelings towards learning The Bar, but I don't use it often; maybe once trying to keep myself from falling over in a heap of exhaustion on Summer in Belize. It feels awkward using it, and I still have no desire to perfect attack songs. It serves its purpose of keeping me from falling on/off the pad, and that's that. We don't get anywhere close to first base.
I don't really care if other people use it, though. It makes you seem really dependant if you're bar-hugging on anything below a 9 ( even on ITG expect charts ) or doubles, but that's your playstyle. Not mine. |

I used to massively use the bar, and then a freind's freind was like "omg bar raper", me "i dont see whats wrong with it, some people do better with it, and some people do better without". So I versed him without bar and massacred him >_>. I only use the bar now to keep myself from swinging completely off the machine when im doing quick crossovers. As for the people who lean into the bars, its acutally quite funny to watch, looks like they're humping the air ^^V |

Whether someone uses the bar or not is totally up to them. Their choice, really, and it isn't hurting anyone else's performance, so why complain about it? Unless some just have to have something to complain about ;b.
Personally, I don't like using it, as it feels like I'm not able to reach the top arrow without stretching or killing my back. I'd rather just keep my point of balance centered on the pad and move around that. That way, my body moves freely without over stretching. I do enough stretching and lifting at work .

I've only used it when I feel like I am about to lose balance, I also prop myself against in between songs.
I've only used on VERY few songs the entire time. |

I play alot of hard songs (mostly 9's and 10's) and use the bar quite often.
by this i do not mean i rape the bar throughout the entire song, but rather 'catch and release' during tricky steps and crossovers. I will use Healing Vision (Angelic Mix) (HEAVY) for example. Now this song is definately a 9-footer. It's semi-fast, and of course, Konami tortured us less balanced players with those damn spins. The one time i FC'd this song, i used the bar for most of the ending stream, and some begining streams, simply because i cannot spin on a 196 BPM song (that's it's speed right?) and rather, have to double step (use the same foot for two consecutive arrows of differnt direction) in order to keep a combo going. My point for explaining this is simple. If n00bs are constantly RAPING the bar on light songs, thats completly different from USING the bar to pass 9's and 10's. _________________

I don't see how. Some "less balanced" players might need to "use" the bar to pass light songs. It's all a matter of personal skill and degree. I have a friend on standard who has to use the bar on everything seven or above... and when he does he moves in a remarkably similar manner to when I use the bar on Hardcore Symphony or PSMO. _________________

I stopped using the bar after continually cutting my hand on it at this one arcade where they have staple nails sticking out of the bars... that'll teach you _________________

I only use the bar if I decide to use really fast speed mods. I can AAA songs without the bar and with the bar. My two harder AAA's(EOTC and Trip Machine) I used the bar for both. Trip Machine was on 3x, which was the main reason I barred it. I personally feel awkward using the bar due to my body type. I am a little bit shorter than most ddr players up around me, so I find it hard to use the bar. I usually dont use it, though nowadays I use it more than I used to.
ITG is a whole different story. I bar everything in ITG. But that is mainly because I use faster speed mods as well. Though some of those songs I would never pass without using the bar, like any song above 10 footer. I love 11 footers and they are my favorite charts, but without the bar they are impossible.
It is depends on the speed mods and the foot ranking. |

I use my Left hand to steady myself, actually to keep center.. when i play barless my body shifts off the pad to the left or right. I usally play on the right pad.. so if i go left, i crash into the other guy, or right i fly off the pad. |

I usually just play at home, and therefore I'm not used to bar at all. Also it means I'm not used to playing with shoes >_<
At the arcade I don't usually use the bar... I remember having to grab onto it once during a runthrough of Drop Out Heavy, during the jumps part I started losing my balance sideways and almost died. I'd like trying the bar seriously at some point, it may really help my PA. We'll see. _________________

Ive just recently made the transition from home 2 arcade and I used bar cause well, it made things easier, I play heavy/standard (cause i cant do 10's maybe some 9's but trainin for 10's). It made it easier when im doing My Max mix (Max 300SMMM Standard LOM standard and Max Unlimited Standard) but i say bar is for anyone one if it helps it helps and they choose 2 use. Now those are my 2 cents take em and buy somethin wit em ^^ |
