I don't see why people don't like it. I think it's a good song. |

Okay, maybe you're right. I'm gonna play it on StepMania today ALOT. And I'll listen carefully to it. It might actually be a good song and I didn't realize it yet. Just like Unlimited, that took me a while to like.
But I know for sure that PS will never come close to sounding like real music. |

Holy cow, everyone likes to make fun of how the Maxes sound. I feel kind of hurt.
I <3 FAXX and all the others. FAXX the most. _________________

I would never make fun of LoM or Unlimited. Max 300 is just a finger-tapper, but nothing special. But Max.(period) well.....*refrains from making fun of it*. |

I can understand why you said "everyone", as I am a no one. But I like some of the MAX songs. The only ones I like to listen to currently are MAXX UNLIMITED, MAX. (period), and Fascination MAXX. |

It makes more sense as 7/4 and most musician's would write it as such.
7/8 barely exists because know wants to deal with it.
Also, parts of Holic are in 4/4 and parts of it are in 7/4 just to screw with your mind _________________

Fascination MAXX does not have the announcers in it. You only hear them because the mp3 is a recording from an audio output thingy on a machine. _________________

My thoughts exactly. The parts with the gallops sounds like he's hitting almost random keys at almost completely random times. |
It isn't random. The part with the gallops is in 3/4 and is 32 bars, making it musically "correct" (I can elaborate on that if you'd like). However, it's somewhat hard to tell that the time signature is 3/4. In the first 16 bars, there is no emphasis on beat 1 in the bass. In the second 16 bars, the bass actually falls every two beats. This is known as hemiola, and it makes it harder to hear the section in 3/4, especially since the first 16 bars don't introduce a strong 3/4 feel.
Listen to the section as if it was in 3/4 and you'll see that it makes perfect sense. _________________

Personally, I thought MAX 300 sounded more ridiculous when I first started hearing it as opposed to when I first started hearing Fascination MaxX. Perhaps it's because 300 was the first of its kind, though.
IMO, the various melodies throughout FAXX seem to barely find a way to complement each other (and AA Bob probably gave the best explanation for that), which is probably why I tend to find this song the most unique of the MAXes next to the Legend of MAX. At least the last 6 songs (300, MaxX, tLoM, MAX., MAXIMIZER, SMMM) were more obviously consistent-sounding, despite their signature techno craziness.
Though with all that said, I still like listening to FAXX, just because it went the extra mile as an edgy speed techno song, while not being entirely stupid-sounding at the same time, like so many other crazy speed techno music. I find some of the parts really cool, like the sound effects in the 400 bpm parts, and the speed piano melody heard in the very beginning and after the slow 100 bpm middle. And the piano solo strangely works with the song...and not in a "Hey, I'm copying neoMAX and Engergizer" kind of way.
But I must say this: Musically, if the next MAX gets even edgier than FAXX, I may have a tough time calling it a song.

QUOTED FOR GREAT JUSTICE.
I'm suprised PS doesn't get hated on more than some of the MAXes did/do. I guess it somehow works so well with its stepcharts that we forget how crappy it is musically.

Most of the time unless the song is easy and awesome (Heaven is a '57 Metallic Gray) I just hear the equivalent of the assist tick in my head. I hear my feet stepping on the arrows at the right time, not the music _________________

I consider holic in alternating 3/8 and 4/8 time. It simplifies things slightly. _________________

I think you mean 3/4 and 4/4. x/8=Triplets. _________________

Actually, Annon was right and you sir are wrong.
x/8 is usually not triplets, as in basically never. If you want to get technical, 12/8 is only the illusion of triplets and so on and so forth.
While parts of Holic are indeed in 7/4 (Parts in 4/4 also to mess you up I think), it is reasonable to split each individual section int o3/8 and 4/8, not because those are the actual time signatures, but because it will still give you the end result of counting it out correctly.
Surprisingly for most people on this forum, triplets are usually written in 4/4, not 12/8. I don't know why we need 1700's style time signatures to express triplets anymore, because musician's haven't written it that way since Handel's Messiah. Jazz is usually 4/4 and it is based on the triplet.
Oh, and Faxx's gallop section would be closer to 6/4 if it has a hemiola Bob, not that it really matters. _________________

x/8 time signatures are more common than that. Some random examples that come to mind are Chopin's Nocturne in E-Flat, Debussy's Clair de Lune, and the third movement of one of Kabalevsky's Sonatas. There are plenty of other examples; 9/8 and 12/8 are still used fairly often (and of course 6/8 is used quite a lot).

I disagree, since there is nothing wrong with crossing a bar line in hemiola. See the example passage in the Wikipedia entry. _________________

Yeah, but it sure makes arranging songs like Burning Heat and bag easier _________________
