They need to spice it up alittle. Take Mario:
Then, he was platformin', now, playable friends, suits, Yoshi, parties, tennis, golf, go-karts, double go-karts, soccer, water pumps, dancing, RPG, doctor, & smashed stuff. Wow, dat's alot....

I don't doubt Konami could produce something new, but I don't think they think it's worth it either, since they really shouldn't give a zhit about the US.

I think DDR is awesome and im sure that if they actually put it into the right american hands they coud come out with great mixes.

I'll always like ddr better than ITG though simply for 1 because its original and they made some of the ITG stuff rediculously hard and NO dont call me a newb because i can beat practically anything on both of them but ITG doesnt have any main boss songs really besides pandemonium nd IDK DDR just seems cooler. But like I said if americas konami coud get the right people DDR could keep going for many years I mean itl probably still be popular 3 years from now anyway.

No. Mario Mix was a good idea transformed into a crime against humanity.

Lol, true! Still good for kids age 4-5 to 8-9... The only song wich could be a ''real'' challenge for mario mix (it's like a 6 or 7 footer in my idea...) is bower castle on very hard...

Mario Mix is fun! What more do you want? And the music is good!

And yes, Konami could use some innovation... think of what could happen with a dance pad and a revolution controller!

Given what most people likened the Revolution "remote" to, I'd rather not imagine what might happen. goog.gif

I think DDR and ITG have different popularity levels in different ares, like, I hear all these people saying the DDR is dying and ITG is rising, but where I am, DDR is played so much more than ITG, we haven't even bothered to get an ITG maching yet. But we have three DDR machines.

I don't think DDR is dying at all. At least 4 people I've come into contact with said they have just purchased the latest PS2 version and more and more people start playing each day. The problem is that most people are just bored with extreme. If a new arcade game came out it would be popular like it once was again. As far as In The Groove, yeah it has many mods, etc...but the stepcharts leave something to be desired, in my opinion, and In The Groove 2's song list, also in my opinion, isn't as fun as DDR Extreme's list (arcade version). I really don't think ITG would become a smash hit if pitted against a new DDR arcade mix.

The ability to play on MM's Very Hard difficulty without feeling like I'm playing on Standard would be nice.

Sadly, even IIDX will end eventually. I doubt they'll make it to IIDX 20th Style. LOL.

(Yes, I know it was a joke. But still)

(Late reply... but who cares...)

If they ever go out, maybe Barbie Young could make their umpteen songs, but they might all be Cartoon Heroes remixes, but who doesn't love that song?

Me. The song is average, but attached to a horrible stepchart.

DDR just feels more energetic. The music actually makes you want to get up and, dare I say it, dance. They make you "skake your thing".

Seriously, when I play ITG, yeah it's more difficult and the steps pose more of a challenge, but I never really found myself wanting to dance to the songs. DDR has a wider viarity and more energy to their tracks. They make me want to step on multicoloured arrows and acrylic.

I think there's a future for both DDR and ITG. Having played both plenty of times, they both have there own strengths and weaknesses. For ITG, there was a huge songlist, with some strange stepcharts (especially on Expert), most seemingly impossible. The home version of that game had an even bigger songlist than the arcade version, with more impossible songlists. The only problem with ITG is the lack of decent licensed songs. The licensed songs were all redone versions without the original vocal tracks, and probably didn't appeal to that many people. The stepcharts for those tracks weren't that great either. I can play that game for about an hour before shutting it off, whereas with a DDR game, I can play for about two hours without shutting it off.

DDR has both popularity, since there have already been plenty of mixes done in the US, and is the only dance game that you could ask anyone about, and they would know about it. They still have plety of songs left for future mixes. They still have Senorita(Speedy Mix) from Extreme and Petit Love from 4th mix which haven't made their way to consoles yet. They still have plenty of songs from IIDX and other rhythm games that they can cross over to DDR. The only question is, can they change the game enough to keep it alive, but without making it a completely different game in itself. Mario Mix was a good start. They did make it incredibly easy, but it was still fun. Garden Boogie is one of the most fun songs on there. Extreme 2's DMM was a great idea, but was incredibly tedious, and got to be impossible towards the end. Ultramix 3's Quest mode could have been awesome if there were a better explanation of what the frick you were supposed to do. Even now, I haven't even come close to passing even the simplest mission, and I've gone and AA'd 9 footers.

In Conclusion, ITG needs to work on getting some better licenses, with better steps on both the easier and harder levels, since they can't solely rely on hardcore dance game fans like us. DDR needs to reinvent itself, but in a way that works for everyone.

They should release an Ultimate DDR Collections with Uber shiney 3D specular Bumpmapped Arrows, realistic looking afros and antialiasing for the next gen consoles!
