Believe it or not, some DDR songs sound better when messed with in audio recording software.

Refer to figure A--

The Subject-"Butterfly"

Materials required:

1 MP3 of "Butterfly" (I used the full version for this experiment, but the short version works fine)
1 piece of audio recording/mixing software (I use a free program called Audacity)

Procedure:

1. Load "Butterfly" into your software

If you've learned your key signatures in a music class, we learn that "Butterfly" is in the key of C# minor, the relative minor of E major...and for this experiment, we're going to transpose downward, which leads me to step 2 (note: this may be different depending on your software):

2. Open Audacity's Effects menu and select "Change Pitch"
3. From the drop down menus, select "C# down to A"and click OK

If you did it right, the result should sound something like this:

A lower pitched "Butterfly"

I use a free program called Audacity for my experiments...head over to audacity.sourceforge.net to get it.

If you've done something like this, share your experiments with us!

My next experiment is coming tomorrow...

that is cool; try it with speed over beethoven, or do you remember me.

try not to give out more of this "free software" unless it is free/shareware, or this will be locked.

Our next experiment is "Waka Laka"...and this time, we're going to transpose it down a step, from Eb major to D...

It sounds something like this:

"Waka Laka" lower pitched

Only problem with Butterfly is that I don't think I've ever met a woman with a voice like that... E13.gif

Cool stuff!

How about "It's Rainin' Men" in the original key?
