It works okay until you get to songs with lots of jumps back to back, because I can't stomp and jump fast enough, my jumps don't have as much weight as when I just stomp around, so it misses jumps. Very frustrating. |

DO NOT BUY THIS PAD.
AVOID AVOID AVOID
I just got mine today.
I take it out of the box. Hook it up. I haven't even removed the frigging plastic from the panels yet... I start to play my first song on the xbox.
10 steps in: Insert Controller 1. It passes, but I get two boos. It continues to pop up every 10 steps.
I have checked every connection. I have checked the connections to the control box. I have checked them to the xbox, I even unplugged the xbox end to the usb cable and reseated it to make sure it was on tight. NOTHING gets rid of this.
I can't even get more than 10 steps without that stupid error message.
I tried to file a return with redoctane. I get this from their returns.asp:
ADODB.Command error '800a0d5d'
Application uses a value of the wrong type for the current operation.
/returns.asp, line 354
So I sent them an email. Well guess what, they won't be in the office till Monday.
I am NOT paying 60$ shipping to send this back. If I have to I am going to get my credit card involved to have them settle this, cause I am NOT paying for a broken piece of junk.
I am so mad right now, I could scream. I can't believe I paid 200$ for this piece of crap! |

I am talking about Red Room on standard.
Get a cobalt flux. This pad is a pile of dog crap. It won't even work for ONE SONG. |

Congratulations, you got a bad pad. It happens.
Meanwhile, the first song I played I AAA'd (My Summer Love on Heavy).
Edit: I should note that the above accomplishment was on PS2. I'm currently in the process of testing out Xbox support.
Edit 2: Well I'll be a monkey's uncle, the pad didn't function at all with my Xbox. HOWEVER, this problem lies with the Xbox plug that was shipped with the pad. I removed it and switched it with the one that comes with the Ignition 3.0, and the pad works fine on the Xbox now. _________________

It doesn't work on the PS2 either. Tried playing DDR Max. It spazzed through all the menus then got stuck endlessly trying to pick some song... couldn't even get it to respond. Unplugging the pad from the controller didn't fix the problem... unplugging the control box from the ps2 at least got the ps2 to stop spazzing.
I removed the plastic... it's still frigging busted.
Congrats on your AAA. Just hope your pad doesn't die within hours. I wouldn't gloat if I were you.
Such a promising start for a brand new series. So much for RedOctane's new "quality" control.
Oh, it won't take the old metal pad controller. I tried to see if I could swap control boxes, but this one only has 9 pins and the old one has what, 14? won't work. |

Bleh, you just happened to get a faulty pad. That doesn't mean all their pads are going to be bad. Nekura is having a good time with his, you just happened to not.
Talk to RedOctane about it and see if they'll sort it out. _________________

they were prolly just defective pads. its like video games released on computer....it comes with bugs, but after you download a few things everything is ok. and im sure RO will listen to the complaint emails and fix minor bugs and replace your defects.

lol he acts as if all things in the world are supposed to work 100% of the time. People are always like "bad things never happen to me mwhahahaha" well bad news dude, bad things have to happen to someone, why not you? As stated before, im sure redoctane will cooperate with you. After all isnt that what a warranty is for? _________________

if it's under warranty, you shouldn't have any problems at all
and there is an Edit button you know....for the future....cuz people can get really ticked off when people double or triple post....
and I don't play on standard ever, so I don't know about red room's jumps....but play drop out heavy and try and do those jump sequences and you'll know what I'm talking about
I'll still wait for some more reviews before I decide anything...it's a shame that the first post about it was a negative review though :-( _________________

SO awesome. And it works perfectly. A few things I've noticed:
- The panels have some bounce to them, and feel pretty nice on one's joints.
- As of now the panels feel windex'd and it's very hard to slide around in shoes.
- The brackets feel like they get in the way a little more than at the arcade, but other than that the feel is really arcade like.
- Nothing *feels* like it's going to crack.
- I was playing stepmania on it and was getting some very nice scores, and ***ing 8s and 9s without trouble. This is the most sensitive pad I've ever played on. It feels like all parts of every panel are really responsive.
- It handles quads and triples beautifully. I had no trouble FECing Anubis on it, nor did Queen of Light or Dawn give me any problems. I can trigger this thing with my fingertips.
Cobalt Fluxes have got NOTHING on this pad! I'd say more, but I'm really tired out from all the pad SM. I can't wait till ITG gets released so the pad can finally serve it's purpose. |

Wow... That pad is very nice. I've been having a mental struggle for awhile now, deciding between the Afterburner and the CF. I'd much rather have the AB, because of the lower price, but I'd like to know if it'll stay in good condition. I think I'm going to wait a month or two, then read more reviews. I'm not sure why everyone bashes RO so much? I've had my Ignition 2.0 for like a year or something, and it still works beautifully. But, hey. To each his own. |

I played on a Cobalt Flux a few times, and even though it felt very sturdy I honestly didn't like it at all. The panels have no "give" at all. That = maximum impact on your knees. Also, I had no idea where I was on the pad, and kept sliding around. Not knowing where I was wouldn't be such a big deal if it wasn't for the fact that CFs don't register at all when you step on the corners of the panels.
Cobalt Fluxes are durable and last (we know that), but the experience isn't as fun or arcade-like. |

But you got to make a new control box for that though. >=P _________________
