Hmm... let me think... Cute, original, sweet at charming, versus trite and boring. I think I'll take the ladder!
Anyone who demands they do something the conventional way because it's the only way to do it properly takes themselves far to seriously.

Let's start the laundry list:
-Catgirls n' Catguys- Wtih the tail and ears
-Cosplayers
-Goth Dudes
-The girls that wear the anime branded cap paraphernalia (e.g. Fruits Basket).
-Punk rock dudes
-"Normal" looking people that copy/quote anime poses/phrases.
I see these guys almost every weekend at the arcade and mingle with them between turns. They're more like acquaintances than friends though. I also meet future enemies- The a-holes that point and call you certain obscenities with their crew while you're playing.

Under the age of 18: Lots of either socially inept acne scarred teenage boys OR freaky-deaky goth kids and or catgirls. (What is it with catgirls at DDR?) Also, lots of people with some strange "running hatchetman" logo on everything they own.
Over the age of 18, really cool people who are easy to talk to and lots of fun to hang with outside the arcade.

Most of the people I've met through DDR don't quite fall under the "friends" category in my book, but they're well enough into the "guys I know" section. We get along well, hang out, and have a good time, but we don't ask each other what we had for breakfast yesterday.
