3. Read the FAQ. It's there for a reason.

I bought one. It works with PS2 files only, so if you want to use it to transfer edits, you'll need to upload/download an Edit Library.

About the FAQ, inside the FAQ, there is a link to the Edit Hack page:
http://www.geocities.com/nightmare_hunter/ddredithackfaq.txt

It's very informative, but for you do do any of the things it says you need:

http://www.descent2.com/dorsola/games/dwi/ddreditbase.mcs

and it refers to this:
file: http://www.descent2.com/dorsola/games/ddredit01.gif

As an example. Sadly both pages are down. Does anybody do edit hacks that take PS2 edits and move them to arcade? I want to take some stuff public. happy.gif

Thanks a bunch!

Just got my Dex Drive today.

Loaded New Link Data for Extreme onto it. How do you input your initials with just a Dex Drive?

Do you need a copy of 5th Mix to get my initials on the Link Data file?

If you want to hex them in, you can do that. Otherwise, yes, you'd need 5th Mix to punch them in.

The offset for initials in Link Data is at 0x3B80. It's four bytes, ASCII.

Do you mean 0x1B80? I can't find anything starting with 0x3. I'm using the hex editor in PSXGameEdit.

Also...There are 8 columns of numbers, which one do I edit with my initials?

If you're using PSXGameEdit, select the second block of data, and then go to 0x1B00. PSXGameEdit hides the first 128 bytes of header data from view.

Assuming your initials are ABCD, you'll have the following:

0x1B00: A
0x1B01: B
0x1B02: C
0x1B03: D

Do you mean?

0x1B00: A
0x1B10: B
0x1B20: C
0x1B30: D

Just want to make sure I'm at the right spot.

No, I meant it as I typed it. The name should all be on one row, not in one column.

I can only find B10 B20, not B01 or B02. None of the values go 01, 02, 03, they are all 10, 20, 30, etc...

I also can't change the value to any letter after F....How would I go about putting a W?

Those are the rows. The columns themselves have values 00, 01, 02, 03, etc. Since there are sixteen positions to the row, the next line starts at 10.

If you want the exact byte position of where you are, look at the top of the editor window, on the righthand side, to the left of where it says "Changed" or "Not changed". That's your cursor's current position.

Click on the righthand side, not the left. You're trying to enter in the raw hexadecimal value instead of the ASCII letter.

You might want to go learn a bit more about hex editors before posting back here again. I'm not gonna teach you how to use one. E15.gif Learn by doing.

PS - For a fun learning project, go start up some random single-player game on your PC. Shoot a single bullet, and then save your game in a new slot. Compare the contents of the two save files. Voila - you now know how to hack your save file to add bullets and whatnot. As I said before - learn by doing.

I have a question. I really don't feel like reading all of those pages, so here goes. How to I convert an edit that I made on a CS version to .dwi and vise versa? I have a Dex Drive so that's taken care of.

DDReditMAX may have this feature, I dunno. Taren @ AIJ wrote a converter, but I don't know if it's publicly released or not.

I tried plugging in my iPod to my PS2 like the USB flash drive, and al lI got it to do was to charge.

Im going to try putting the iPod into disk mode first next time, to see what happens. Hopefully there will be a new way of transfering data.

Im sad... I tried with a fourth gen running 3.0.2.

If anyone else wants to try with a third or mini....

Are you talking about using it with the Datel MAX Drive software? Because the PS2 won't recognize any peripherals in the PS2 browser. You need special software to do it.

I imagined a part of a thread that you said that there is no software needed.

I need help..

If anyone has the software, it might work if you put the iPod in disk mode (Restart iPod and hold the select and play buttons at the apple screen).
