Hi,
Thanks for the information .
I was wondering about the inside panel because I didn't quite get was being said w/how to put in the unlock codes.
The guys came back out again during the week some time and fixed the machine. I don't know what they did, but the whole maching is rest back to defaults, so now it's quite costly to play. Oh...I guess it might have been due to the blue cover over the rom that they felt didn't need to be put back on...or that they put things on in a hurry...over all I don't think the guys repairing the machine really should be
Well, thanks again.
Shadow_Dragonz
P.S. I appologize about kinda flaming those guys. They just don't treat the machine well, and really don't know what they're doing. _________________

It was a dumb question, and I'm sure you can come up with a comparably sarcastic answer, Yeehaw, so please add this to the FAQ:
"Can I put the arcade CD in my computer and play it?" _________________

Curitss, it's in for now, but I'll be changing the reply once I get the proper image for it.
And belive me, it's gonna be GOOD. _________________

Was it my question that sparked the "stupid question?"
I don't think what I asked was stupid...I just didn't take all the time I could've to search for my answer

Re: Event Mode clarification
I work at an arcade, and have put the machine on event mode for a tournament. To do this, the machine -must- be on freeplay, and you do hold down the service button (only) when exiting the operator's menu,
In addition to the details mentioned above (autofail off, no high scores, no extra stage), there are a couple more important ones.
First, the timer in the song select, menus, and (most importantly) results screen does not go down. This way you can take as long as you want to pick songs or to record results.
Secondly, if you hit all three face buttons at any time (left yellow, right yellow, and the green start) you will soft reset the machine back to the title screen.
These features are especially useful for tournaments! No more failing extra stage, plenty of time to pick songs and record scores, easy to go back to the title screen if mods are wrong, or if you want to start a new match on 1st stage (to keep life bar settings consistant).
All this info is for DDR Extreme, but I would guess that it's probably the same for others.
And, if this has been answered before, I apologize! I didn't real the whole thread, just the first post, and decided to contribute ^__^ _________________

The "Flash Rom" error can be caused by many things. The two most common ones are bad connections in the connector between the pads or between the pad and the base unit, or the fan in the back of the machine going out. Strangely enough, these things are temperature sensitive.
Radio shack has the fans for $20 or so; just be sure to show up with your old one so you can make sure you match impedencies, voltage requirements, etc. _________________

Ok, I've spent about 3 hours searching through many forums and whatnot for an answer to this, and I've seen my question asked but every answer has two possibilities. I want to upgrade a USA machine to either 4th plus or 5th. It is a USA machine, not one of the 1.5's that were "upgraded." For 4th plus I have a authentic konami CD and for 5th it is a burned copy. What else do I need to have or can I just swap out the discs and reboot, as if I was putting in the hacked extreme? Also, I have heard some talk about rom chips, and I have an 8th mix rom chip. So would it be possible for me to upgrade this USA machine to ANYTHING but USA? If so is there any walkthrough that was written that would help me figure out what I need to do if I do have to mess with the rom chips. Oh, and here's a picture of the rom chip, if it may help at all. The only difference is that the numbers on mine read "0000039956" for the middle row and "9827E" for the bottom row if that makes a difference. Thanks in advance for any help at all guys! _________________

USA to 4th plus or fifth: unfortunately (I'd need some further clarification) it doesn't look like you'd be able to go up to 4th plus. Fifth, assuming you have all the other bootleg materials (IC ROM chip, security cart) should go ok. Most IC chips out there are for 4th to 7th.
USA to Extreme: If you have the bootleg equipment, you're all good. Your IC chip for Extreme will not work for any other mix.
My, admittedly incomplete, understanding of the architecture involved in ddr usa's board leads me to the conclusion that it's basically a Korean machine (which means you have to use bootlegs). If someone esle can chime in it'd be appreciated. _________________

Ok, so how exactly would I know if my equipment is bootleg? If the CD is a burned copy rather than an original? Or can it be a bootleg and still have the original Konami CD? I'm going to the machine in a few minutes andI will take pictures of as much as possible if that might help at all. And do you know if I would need anything besides the 8th mix CD and the 8th mix rom chip to upgrade to Extreme? Thanks again for everyone's help, I'm still learning all this stuff! Oh yeah, and what does the security cart look like and where does it go? How can I tell if my rom chip is a bootleg one? _________________

1. Lack of konami seal on header.
2. Well, I have been fooled by an extreme machine, and I pass it for "official" because the disc looks *exactly* like a DDR EX disc, and the fact that the security cart does say "DDR extreme".
3. what?
4. Nope.
Security cart question and security rom question. The cart is that blue thing that you see on the computer, take that out (PLUS the 2 flash rom cards) before dissasembling the machine (do*NOT* remove the screw's right above the CD mounter).
The security ROM card is inside the motherboard. _________________

Is there any other way besides the sticker on the header to tell if my mix is bootleg or not, because one of the other machines in my area does have the sticker but is a bootleg as well. I just want to make absolutely sure before I do anything that could potentially mess up the machine. _________________

The header, the disc looking gehto, the cart not matching the mix. The security rom chip goes inside the System board, look at your instructions for more info. _________________

Yea I know it's a hologram. I dunno how they got it there, but that machine is definately a bootleg, and it has the hologram sticker on the marquee and by the 1P buttons. Wierd huh? Must have bought a real marquee on ebay or something I guess. Thanks for the info guys. I'm gonna get a better look at everything and maybe try to upgrade it this Thursday and I'll let ya know the details or if I had any problems, in case the question is ever brought up again. _________________

How do you know its a bootleg, and if its by the 1P buttons, that just means that its a legitmate memory card upgrade kit. _________________

This one's really easy, all you have to do is exchange the "cherry" switches for the two arrow buttons. It's a matter of swap 'n' snap.
just be careful not to break any light bulbs. |

I know because the people who own that machine know a lot about the machines and they have assured me that it is indeed bootleg. I asked today and he said he did buy the marquee on ebay from another arcade owner who "upgraded" to Megamix. _________________

Hehe, I have another question about upgrading machines, or rather, swapping mixes. Another arcade in my area has a Megamix installed. If we wanted to make it a bootleg copy of Extreme would all that need be done is swap CD's, or would any other process or exchanging chips and whatnot have to occur? _________________
