I believe that you are confusing this info with something that you may have read about the new company that is working to create a similar series since Konami isn't making anymore in the line, or possibly the photos of when the Step Mania team did a test of one of their games in a DDR machine.
Info on Step Mania

Let's recap this whole thing. These are DDR Megamix's particularities:

1- Graphics change (main screen, warning screen, marquee, song select, and probably other stuff)

2- Sorting is being remembered between games. (ie: If a player used, say, ABC sorting on his last song, the next player will start on ABC sorting, instead of the normal DDREX sorting).

3- Some versions have been known for replacing freeze arrows with "blocks". I have no clue as to whatever that means. If someone could confirm, it would be appreciated.

4- DDR Megamix has been proven to be unlockable with normal DDREX codes and instructions. Some other versions will not allow you to go to the "code-entering" screen. It is said that versions that replace freezes with "blocks" won't allow the unlock procedure.

5- When a game is started in ABC sorting (ie: if the last's game's song was selected using ABC sorting), some random song will play.

6- Another unconfirmed piece of info is: Unlockable versions may play songs available only through unlocking, should a game be started on ABC sorting.

7- Loading times (when you select a song, and it says "1st stage") can be a bit longer than on Extreme. I noticed that on many Megamixes (2 in Montreal, 1 in Laval (before they swtiched it back to DDREX), 1 in St-Constant), so I doubt that all those 4 would suddently have CD Drive issues, and that those issues would suddently drop when one of them gets switched back to DDREX.

Actually at Roseville Golfland over here in NorCal, there's a StepMania machine that's dubbed "Extreme 2". That's what he must be talking about. =P

Anywho:

Oh Em Gee!!111oneoneoneeleven Megamix is the bestestest mix ever!

Seriously, I have no problem with Megamix. Over in Colma at Serra Bowl there's a Megamix machine. It's 50 cents and that's cheap DDR. Nothing wrong with playing on Megamix if it's cheap, plus Serra Bowl is open 24/7 every day of the year! It's awesome.

We've had an Extreme machine in our Tilt for about a year now and found out about a week ago that we are switching to a Megamix as well. Of course our machine has been 50 cents since it was a 3rd mix. We can only hope that it is good like some of you are claiming. riiight.gif

They did at my tilt, i just found out they had it today. I went there expecting to play Sakura but it was not unlocked. frown.gif At least i improved my score on the World Tour course (got to song 7 and a score of 4255).

I didn't enjoy it that much, it just didn't feel "right" to me after the fully unlocked extreme they used to have. I spent a majority of the time there playing Soul Caliber 2...

"as good"? How about "almost exactly the same"? Why even "upgrade"?

The biggest crime will be if you guys "upgrade" the machine and then increase the price. That would be the pinnacle of idiocy.

No offense, but reading the whole thread would have given you the answer:

And reading the VERY first post of the "DDR Arcade Games" forum would have given you the steps to unlock songs:

Hope it helps

Uhm... The machine got raped? That's too bad! laugh.gif You make it sound like you wanted the 'Freeze blocks'. The machine I play at is a Megamix and also doesn't have the funky graphic, and I don't think it's bad at all. Personally, I'd have to say that it really isn't that bad. Not bad at all. Sure, it doesn't feel legitimate because of the mixed up art work and the marquee, but I really don't understand why so many people are so angry with it. (I can, however understand people being mad that that guy is making money from it) Gosh, you say the machine is a homosexual? I didn't know that could be! disturb.gif

Your correction fails to make you sound any more intelligent.

And just what is "reds in west ed mall"? Is there really a mall named "West Ed"? And there's an arcade in there named "Reds"? Wow...sounds like Reader Rabbit designed the place...

Why the hell would anyone want to "upgrade" from EX to the poopy filled Megamix? The graphics are worse, some preview music doesn't play, some you can't unlock songs on, and some background videos don't play...so I fail to comprehend the argument that DDR Megamix is superior to a regular bootleg of DDR Extreme...please elaborate on how it is better.

50 cents a play? That's how much the DDR Extreme machine I play costs, so your argument on it being cheaper is null and void. Maybe in your area it is cheaper to play megamix than a regular DDREx machine, but here it's not.

It is NOT better. Some arcade managers are just plain idiots, that's all...

I've heard from some people that the timing windows were also hacked, and that it is much harder than DDREX. dunno if it is true or not, as I haven't gotten down to my local megamix to play it yet.
