You have just described me to a T.

I do help all other players who want help though.

Hey it's not my fault I sweat like crazy!

I always bring a can of deodorant, kinda considering carrying a towel with me as well. Down here we've got what I would describe as "evil n00bs". They clearly play a lot of DDR but just never push themselves. Basically they get to the level where they can pass Afronova and Afronova Primeval on Light, and Max 300 Light. Then they never play any other songs again. Oh and it's both hands firmly on the bar all the way through. I have no problem with bar raping on challenging songs like 9s and 10s and special cases like say Waka Laka or DXY but on 5 foot songs it's just ever so slightly silly.

Anyway they tend to take several turns in a row, and generally distract the hell out of you whilst playing, either by barraging you with questions or deliberately trying to distract you. My local's Euromix 2 is on joint premium though, so I try to wean them off it (playing the same set until my ears bleed, the attitude is kinda beyond repair) by playing my credit as a Versus and picking a few moderate Trick songs and easy Maniac songs to try and get them to push themselves a bit. I've been meeting with limited success. Of course now the buggers think they're ENTITLED to it every time I play. Egh, you can't really win.

Anyway yeah I haven't met a single expert DDR player in this country who wasn't nice (offline anyway). I think the fact that you spend a frightening amount of money, time and dedication playing on an arcade machine in order to refine your skills to this point invests a fair bit of humility into the average hardcore DDR player. Do you REALLY feel this is something to brag about? Leastways that's how I'd explain it about myself.

As I am a member of the MMORPG family, I know what you mean. But some of us MMORPGers become close friends. There are the others that think being online makes them better than everyone else.

Most people at my arcade are nice. I mean one time I forgot to put my token in line to go next and he put it before me. So I went up to him and asked him if I could go even though I forgot. He was cool with it and let me in. But once in awhile I will get these stuck-up !@#!@$!#@ people that while I'm playing a 8 or 9 footer say "Oh, that's nothing" or "Look he's going to mess up on this part!" even though I don't. Those people get irritating but I just ignore them. But, usually when they go up they do standard 5 or 6 foot songs and get C's lol. I also ran into some expert players one time but for the most part they were real quiet, and didn't really peep a word the entire time except for breathing hard after a 9 footer lol riiight.gif . The newbie players out here arn't as bad as I've heard other places. All they do is have fun and do different songs each time trying to learn. Although the occasional "We have to stomp as hard as we can to get a good grade!" gets annoying from some people there.

When I went to mall of america and i went to the arcade in snoopy land where the ddr is and this kid was playing pump it up an he was doing the same song over and over and over and it was getting boring. Later that day I met this kid and he was playing ddr and it was like I knew him for like 3 years because he just started talking about things and ddr. It was really cool because I usually don't talk with ddr players.

Just curious, but do you remember his name? Odds are I know 'em, and odds are I'll smack 'em for chain playing songs. E1.gif

I have no idea what we're talking about know...

all i know is that that categorizing of DDR players was good in the title but lacking or biased in the description.

...what the heck? DDR players being nicer? In reality, a lot of these players are A*sholes, having DDR skill encourage their negative outlooks on other players.

whether this a majority or not, I dunno. But when a DDR player isn't "nicer", he/she's is lightyears away from it. At least in my area.

PLEASE FORGIVE US. THE OPINIONS OF LIQUID ZERO DO NOT COUNT FOR THE FACT THAT HE HAS AN EXTREMELY LIMITED AMOUNT OF PEOPLE WHO ARE DDR ASSOCIATES AND THE FACT THAT HE ALWAYS HAPPENS TO SEE BAD DDR PLAYERS AS OPPOSED TO THE NICE ONES. NEEMO, DDRFREAK AND ROB SCHNEIDER , IN NO WAY, SHARE THE IDEAS EXPRESSED BY LIQUID ZERO.

THANK YOU.

Some DDRers aren't the most friendly. Anyone from Long Island about 2 years ago can remember the DDR fiasco at FYE o.O... *scured*

In the corner of MN where I'm at, no one knows what DDR is, so I've never met any mean players.

But everyone on here seems pretty nice. riiight.gif

I don't think it's fair to say (responding to the original question) that DDR players are neccessarily "nicer" than other gamers, because every group of people has at least one jerk in it. But I do agree with the point made that us DDRers are more encouraging, perhaps even more demanding of our skill and game than others. I believe it's because DDR takes mental and physical ability to succeed. Therefore, there's room to help each other out and improve yourself.

"Versus", I think, has a different meaning to DDR than it does to say, Tekken 4. In Tekken 4, you'll play against someone to win their game. In DDR, you'll play with someone to either get tips...or you just don't feel like waiting in that long coin-line. riiight.gif

I think all the Minnesotan/Midwest DDR players were drawn to this topic! Anyway, I usually am pretty quiet at the arcade, but I'm either the oldest (Grand Slam) or the youngest (Rosedale). I guess 12 year old, especially girls, really don't hang out at arcades that much. ~sighs~
