I was just making a suggestion. Personally, I have no idea how to c-walk. I have my own style. Yes, I love floats and glides too. Although It's hard to find placement for them sometimes. Turns and spins are probably easiest, but that's just my opinion. To me, it doesn't matter how anyone freestyles. It's their choice. As long as it looks good. |

ok. Well im starting to like freestyle....too much. I can get some basic tricks (handplants, kneeplants, turning-around-backwards-for-a-bit,) But what are some I REALLY gotta get down. Some that i need to master before moving on. |

To tell you the truth, those were basics from a long time ago, they're not used too much these days and some of them can tend to hurt a lot if done incorrectly. Some stuff to get down for when you're starting off would be to first and foremost be relaxed and comfortable, and just to be able to get into what you're doing without worrying about anyone around you or what they think. If you have problems with that, just go play later at night when there are less people around. Another important thing is to find what kind of songs you can get into and start thinking up stuff/movements to execute in that kind of song, and don't be afraid to change stuff up.
That's really all I got for now, cause it's late ^^ |

usamablackbelt wrote: | what makes the difference between a beginner with "songsteps" and a pro with "songsteps"? Is it the difficulty of them? | It depends on what you mean by "songsteps." If you mean a beginner and a pro doing the same song on the same difficulty, then it's a matter of execution. Some people prefer to freestyle on light because the minimal number of arrows and frequent gaps allow them more flexibility in what they do in their dance. Others like myself like to dance on standard with a medium number of arrows to help keep everything flowing constantly. In my opinion, heavy isn't a good choice for freestyling, but more of a skill and stamina test. However I have seen some people freestyle fairly well to heavy, but then again I don't think it's the best choice. As far as learning tricks, I wouldn't call dance moves "tricks." If you want to freestyle, you want to pick a style of dancing, and eventually make it your own. There are no real set "tricks" or moves to learn, they just have to come naturally to you. The only way this will happen if you've never danced before DDR is to get exposed. Going to dances and watching videos is a great way to pick up ideas for hundreds of great moves and styles. I recommend watching videos that you can play over and over again to break down how the movements are done, and then practice in your own privacy. Once you feel comfortable enough dancing in front of people, going to dances is a great way to not only show off your style, but to see what other people have been able to come up with and exchange moves with each other. This can also easily be done by going to an arcade where other freestylers play, and learn from them. Once you've got the moves down, it becomes only a matter of applying them to the game. I think everything I just pointed out is basically what Miss Toy advised on the first page of this thread. So my advice is to not to look at single tricks, but to learn different styles until you're comfortable enough to create your own moves and make it your own. I hope this was helpful, and more importantly hope that I answered your question. Good luck! |

Onigirl (and indeed anyone reading this) - go for the doubles!
I play a lot of DDR, both technical and FreeStyle, and I *only* style to doubles. There is so much more room and possibility that once you've done it you can't really go back.
I really can't overstate it enough - just try it and you'll see what I mean.
Enjoy! _________________

I've never done or seen anyone do this but I thought of an idea a couple days ago. Put your legs on the bar and hit the arrows with your hands. Would that be a neat idea, or is it stupid? I even gave it a name : legstand. You could sorta imagine it as doing a handstand and hitting the arrows except your legs are on the bar instead of in the air. Prolly sounds weird but I thought it might be somethin neat. What do you guys think?

I think it would look and flow better if, instead of sitting your legs on the bar, you kicked off the bar, went into a handstand for a halfsecond and landed on the up arrow. |

What part of the body would hit the up arrow? |
