I have found that when used with different versions of console DDR, a Cobalt Flux pad needs to use modified arrow timing (via Sound Options Menu).

Konamix: The steps register VERY LATE but there is no timing option as far as I know.
Max: +0
Max2: +0
Max JP: ???
Max2 JP: ???
Extreme JP: +3
Ultramix: +2 (Used with an adapter called "Total Control"; not 100% sure if +2 is still a bit laggy and +3 is needed)

Can anyone else append to the list, fill in my blanks, or validate/correct these numbers? Thanks!

~Chris

EDIT: My CF pad was purchased in December 2003, which I believe makes it a Version 2. Thanks to GepettoZHog for reminding me there were 2 versions.[/i]

Well, I play Ultramix on +2, and it's STILL off. (Gemeni Adapter--- CF2)

I played ONLY Ultramix for a while, and then played Max 2 at arcade. Terrible. All Greats.

So I actually think that Ultramix on +2 is still a little to fast (i.e., slow down a little bit). Not sure what else to set it to though...

I don't have anything to add specifically regarding the CF, but I'm pretty sure there's a timing setting somewhere in Konamix, probably in the sound options like you mentioned.

I just bought a Cobalt Flux set and I also bought two XBox soft pads. I followed the directions found somewhere on this site and ripped out the XBox internal control box and added a 15 pin serial cable to attach to the CF. So far it has been working like a charm. I have not had to adjust the timing for my Ultramix game at all.

(Just in case someone is curious) I do not have XBox Live so I am not sure if I register as a controller or pad.

If the soft pad registered as a pad, your CF will register as a pad. Mad Catz Beat Pad and Beat Pad Universal both show up as pads. The Naki shows up as a controller. Any time you use a converter, shows up as a controller.

It goes without saying that the Konami pad shows up as a pad.

I've killed a lot of soft pads lately. E1.gif

So this explains why I get so many greats on Max JP! I have tried Max JP with +0 and +2 and I still can't AA much. However on Max 2 JP, +0 does work fine, I can AA and even get some AAA's with no problem.

Does anyone know what to set the timing on for Max JP?

for most DDR games, US and JP, +2 seems to work. Max2 US may be alittle under, say at +1. Max1 US is the only big exception, start at either +4 or +6 and tweak it to your liking, depending on how well you do on the songs.

NOTE!!!!! Timings are different for everyone!!!! Each home system is set up in a different way, different speakers, different TVs, etc. This may cause a small difference in timing when playing DDR. If one timing doesnt seem to be working for you, try practicing in training mode to see if your steps are falling behind or are too far ahead. (It helps much to be able to play by ear when tweaking your timings too, of course. biggrin.gif)

Konamix has the timing options in the same place as every 4th mix based game. it's there, trust me.

As people have said, training mod e is very useful, but it's difficult to tell if you've go tit right unless yo're a good PA-er in the arcades.

For the time settings I use the following:

Konamix: +5
DDRMAX: +3
DDRMAX2: +3
Ultramix: +3

I'm using a pad shown in my signature. It seems to work pretty well for me, since I play a lot of 5th Mix and the timing is very strict on it.
