i have a burnt copy myself, but mine isn't patched. what i did with mine, and it seems to work, is to use the modchip code bypass in a gameshark, and that does wonders.
strange part is, my ps1 isn't modded, and yet it worked. |

Ugh, PS2Cover ordered on the 14th...still not here, even though we got confirmation for it...
Well, turns out my mother got the JAP version of Swap Magic 2.0 bundled with it for Xmas. Is there anything you can download and burn to replace it? What about Gameshark CD's, do they work? Or am I going to have to get Swap Magic 3.0 from Modchip.com? |

If you could download a Swap Disk or Use Gameshark why would people buy the Swap Disk in the first place..... _________________

one of my friend has a modded xbox that contains a 120gig harddrive meaning he's able to burn games right to it. now recently he said he downloaded a version of ULTRAMIX thats been hacked to include more than 170 songs much like a version of stepmania. i was wondering if anybody has any information on any website regarding this hacked ULTRAMIX or a site where they mod xbox. |

It also gives you access to the laser for quick & easy cleaning. (This is important; I literally have to QTip my PS2 every time I want to play DDR Max US. Max2 US, Max2 & Extreme JP all work fine, but Max US is being picky. Once the system reads the game, the game itself runs flawlessly.)
There are only three things to keep in mind when installing a fliptop lid. First is to be mindful of the ribbon wire connecting the power & reset buttons. If you remove the lid the way they tell you to, this isn't an issue. Second is getting the memory card covers installed into the fliptop lid part. This was a giant hassle, but since there's no electronics involved you just have to beat at it. Third... I hope you've got tiny screwdrivers. I mean, really, really, really tiny screwdrivers. Once you take off the lid, you have to remove the CD cover, and unless you have screwdrivers capable of removing electrons from energy fields, it's staying where it is. If you've got the screwdriver, installing this thing is like falling off a log.
The *only* downside to a fliptop lid is that as it is, it can't play import PS1 games. But there has to be another boot disc for that somewhere. However, the six PS2 DDR games have practically every song covered anyway, with nicer options and interfaces to go with them.

Ok, now I am confused. I read pretty much the whole fricking thread to decide what to do (yes, all 28 pages lol) and you said that the flip top can't play PS1 imports. Earlier in the thread, someone said that it can using a Gameshark Lite. Which is it?? I have a US PS2 and want to play only ddr jap imorts at the least 5th-party collection. I would like confirmation on DDR 1-4th as well but I have the 5th and want Max, Max2, Ex and Party Collection. I would rather not mod my PS2, so this looks good but I want to know if I can play all DDR imports or not. Thanks in advance.
Also, I guess I should mention that I just got my PS2 for christmas, so I have the latest model. Here http://www.ps2fliptop.net/new_page_2.htm it says the Swap Magic Disc "CD" will not work on it, but the DVD does. Does that effect anything?? Will I not be able to play any DDR imports if I do this?? |

The fliptop ITSELF cannot play PS1 games. But if you use a gameshark lite or PS-X-Change (I think those will work properly), you CAN play PS1 games.
When you buy the swap magic discs, you get a DVD and CD boot disc. You must use the proper one for the game you are playing. If you you're playing a blue bottom'ed disc, then you use the CD boot disc. If you're playing a silver bottom'ed disc, then you use the DVD boot disc. (This can also be determined by looking at the back of the game box, and reading whether it's a DVD-ROM or CD-ROM.
I don't know the details of the new PS2 models, so I can't say why CD's don't work anymore. _________________

Thank you. I think I have all the answers im looking for except can someone tell me whether or not Max JPN is DVD or Cd?? I think thats the only one I might not be able to play assuming Max 2 JPN, Extreme and Party Collection are DVD's instead of CDs. |

Sorry to ask in 2 places, but...
Some guy is offering a used PS2 with Magic 3.1 mod chip for $150. It sounds like a good offer, and if it checks out I'll take it, but that low price makes me paranoid.
http://www.ddrfreak.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=79541
1. is a magic 3.1 chip acceptable? and
2. can anyone tell if this seller is reputable OR a scammer? I'd like to avoid getting scammed |

Party Collection is in fact a CD actually.
Extreme is a DVD.
Couldn't tell you about MAX or MAX2 - JPN however. I don't have those imported. Although, my best guess would be that MAX = CD, MAX2 = DVD, but I'm not sure. _________________

Your right Jason, they go as follows:
MAXJP: CD
MAX2JP: DVD
EXJP: DVD
Party Collection: CD _________________

Man youve gotta be kidding me lol....why would party collection be cd?? That sucks that the Swap Magic Disc wont work with my PS2 model. Anything else I can use?? Possibly a Gameshark?? I thought for sure this was the route I was going to take. |

OK so this is a random question, I want to run an import psx game on a US PSX and I have no boot disc/mod chip, etc. The thing is that I remember seeing a few people that swap with their ninja skills and can get a import disc with the help of a us psx game. I know it has to do with switching it during certain spin speeds. Any takers on how this trick works?
PS.... I will be getting a boot disc, I am lazy and want to play today and not wait. _________________

I think it reads the region code at 1x then speeds up ... and swap before it speeds up, and GOOD LUCK! |

I've tried that before, but I could never get it to work. Not worth the effort every time you want to turn on your PSX IMO. Also, for the flip top + boot disc thing - does it matter which version of Gameshark2 I have?

I remember a while back, when "TechTV" used to be "ZDTV", and on one of their shows, they had a quick segment on how to "Use backup games, that you legally own on your" and the one thing that I remember from the segment, was someone saying there is a pause when (I can't really recall. Either the SCEA screen, or the black PS screen) and as quick as you can, swap disks - this is after you find a way to jimmy the cover door button down, so the PS thinks the cover is closed. I wouldn't do it if that PS is your only means to DDR (Because stopping the disk motor is probably the worst thing you can do, short of pissing on the playstation) but if you are not a patient person such as myself, I would try it once or twice.
Anyway, as for anyone that said that the PS-X-change can boot up imports of PS1 DDR games FOR USE ON A PS2, it does not work (at least for me) after the Playstation 1 boot screen, it shows a zoomed image of the top left of the same PS1 boot screen, and is locked up. I hope to have a GS Lite soon, so hopefully that works. |

you do have a flip-top mod, right?
(I'm not saying it works, I'm just trying to confirm details.) _________________
