This kid kept telling me that it was Sa-KORE-ah. He was trying to convince my that that was right, even though I was saying it correctly. Don't listen to others.

I didn't mispronounce Stoic, I just don't know how to spell out pronunciations for words.

Graah!! It's "GRADIUSIC CYBER!" It's based off of a game called "Gradius!" Where the hell to people get the "al?" Gra-joo? Hell, no. It's Gra-dee!!! Gra-dee! Gra-dee-oo-sic Cyber! Well, Guradiushikku Saibaa if you want to katakana-ize it.

I mentioned the common mispronuciation of "Gradiusic Cyber" as a comment made noting that quite a few people say it without reading it carefully first.

I knew it was "Grah - dee - us - ic" blink.gif

I don't think anyone was saying the proper pronunciation of Stoic is "stoyk." I think people were listing MISpronunciations, as the topic title says...

And a dash over the E in "Pokemon" would make it a LONG E, which is pronounced EE. So if they put a dash over the E, they are wrong. It should be a little curved line if they wanted it to be "po-KAY-mon."

Sort-of-belongs here, I think

Of course, living among native speakers, I have the opposite experience: garbled Engrish names of songs.

In general, though, here (not to be taken as law; just the quirks of how people have pronounced things):

DXY! is pronounced the same way as "Dixie"

"V" = "Five" (faibu) (I'm dead serious; while the folks at Muthos don't do it, there is a whole cult of people in Yokohama that do it)

"Paranoia Survivor" = parasaba

"Paranoia Survivor Max" = parasaba max

"Max 300" = max sanbyaku (obvious)

"Legend of Max" = legendou

"Trip Machine Survivor" = torisaba

"Genom Screams" = genomu

...and many other atrocities to the English language.

Ah, ok that makes a little more sense. Sorry to sound so vindictive.

First off, I saw no indication that people were saying it that way so, *shrug.*

The mark over the e is called an accent aigu (ocks - awnt aygoo). It actually does exactly what you say it doesn't. Arrivée, for example, is the french word for arrived. The same applies to the word pokémon, making it pokaymon. But why should I care this much?

Not exactly a mispronuciation, I once heard some girl say to her friend (referring to Dub-I-Dub), "Ooh, lets play the dooby song!"
And as far as I care, its poe-kuh-mon. Alternatively, it could be pronounced toe-tuh-lee-gay.

Gradiusic Cyber is the one that really gets me. So many people still say "Graduilistic Cyber" after you correct them.

I also hate when people say B2U or Brilliant 4U. They're getting two completely different songs mixed up.

Another is when people say K.O.3 Mix, although K.O.G. G3 Mix is a bit of a mouthful.

And of course, how many people call it Saint Goes Marching? Not too many.

Most veteran players can identify songs like KAKUMEI, Aoi Shoudou, and possibly Mahou no Tobira, but few ever refer to MATSURI JAPAN as.... MATSURI JAPAN. Most people act like the name `JAPAN` is an alternative to the Japanese word that precedes it (`MATSURI`... it means festival...).

My step-brother (I should also say that he's 11 and spells computer "cumpyoter" [his mom could care less about his intelligence]) always says "Japan Re-venge" instead of "Matsuri Japan". And this, I think is an honest mistake (the kanji for matsuri can look like a scribbly drawing to the 'not-japanese-studying' eye). He said it once, I corrected him; he said it again, I corrected him again. This still goes on today, and he started when he was 9...

Also, I've heard Sobakasu Freckles (Freckles Freckles) been pronounced soh-BAH-KAS-sue Freckles.

AH. If Pokemon has an ACCENT over the E, then you're right. A DASH or LINE over the E would make it po-kee-mon.

Along those same lines, I know someone who will say "Afronova Re-Venge" as the title of Afronova... and then he calls Afronova Primeval, "Afronova" or "Afronova Remix". I don't see how that happens. He also says "Drop Out 260" and "Drop Out 130" as the names for the two versions of Drop Out.
