Well, my BNS DX-XTreme Dance Pad finally came! Another cool thing is that it came today, today is my last day of school! The pad did come with a free parallel port adaptor which is good. When I first opened the box, i wanted to find out exactly how dense the inserts were, and just like the description, they are Xtremely dense. It came with three inserts with interlocking patterns. They were easy to assemble. The inserts were a bit bigger than the pad, but is wasn't that hard to insert them into the pad. I had no problems inserting the insert and zipping the pad up. When I played 5th mix, i started to get a couple of boos and misses. I found out that the cause of this was the little semi-circle on the arrow. Steping in this circle does not trigger a step. After a couple of songs, I got used to the semi-circle issue, but then I encountered another problem, I kept falling off the pad. I don't know if this is pad is regulation size, but too me it seemed to be a little smaller than normal. On some catas my foot would slide to touch one of the arrows, and then suddenly my foot would come off the pad adn cause me to lose my balance. I think the reason that I think it is small is that before this pad, I played with a RO Metal Pad, which is bigger than this pad. Other than the pad's semi-circle issue, the sensitivity is excellant. When I tried playing with the pad on Stepmania I was dissapointed with the pad's sensitivity. I played songs like Exotic Ethnic Heavy and Maxx Unlimited Standard. The left arrow seemed to be unresponsive. It barely registered and on freeze steps it wouldn't suddeny register for a second and then it would stop, which caused a lot of boos and No Goods. Even though it didn't play stepmania well, don't let that stop you from buying this pad. It might just be my pad or drivers for the cause of the left arrow issue. |

i was wondering if i could combine the chairmat mod and plywood mod and the pad would be just as good as those mods done uncombined?
To double check on the mods the CHAIRMAT MOD: is when you take a chairmat and put into the pad and leave the foam piece under the chairmat and the PLYWOOD MOD: is when you take a piece of plywood, hardwood floor covering, clear ducktape, and a staple gun, and....put the pad on the plywood, put the ducktape on the edges of the mat and tape to wood, and staple the hardwood floor covering. is that correct????? Because im thinking about getting a redoctane ignition pad 2.0 and i want to mod it so i wanna make sure that the mods work good. |

Don't get a RedOctane Ignition Pad 2.0! Buy a BNS Ultra DX-Xtreme Dance Pad from BNS! Better insert and half the price. |

What about the Ignition v 3.1 pads at Level Six? They come with free foam inserts so I thought maybe that'd be good for me. |

|
|
Okay, I'm going to try to just stick to the facts:
1) On E-Bay one can find many listings for DDR pads and bundles from plegend2001 - these are in fact from Cybergames
2) Frequently, plegend2001 offers an item that is "2 DANCE REVOLUTION IGNITION PAD DDR KONAMIX"
3) The item clearly states in its description:
Quote: | "The new deluxe has durable plastic inserts underneath each button to accentuate the difference between the button and the other parts of the pad. The new pad has 1-inch foam inserted..." |
4) The "Buy it Now" price is $60.
5) The item stipulates "Buyer Pays $25.00 for UPS Ground Shipping."
Sounds great, no? If these are Ignition v.2 pads, this is a deal. I went for it. So, why am I bummin'?:
The pads are clearly not v.2 pads: The internal foam is just 1/2", and it is the light kind of foam that you see used for shipping packages. If there are "plastic inserts", they are pretty darn minor - I can't tell they're there.
I've written back to the seller, but judging from what I've read on this thread (yes, I read all 25 pages... ), I don't expect to get a real response from them.
So:
1) Beware plegend2001's auctions - the item description may be misleading.
2) Is really any other difference between v.1 and v.2 than the foam?
3) If not, I'm thinkin' I'll either
a) buy foam from RO or BNS, or
b) do the chair pad mod.
Any thoughts, comments, harangues?

That sucks. You should buy 2 foam inserts from BNS. |

My BNS Ultra DX-Xtreme Dance Pad now works perfectly with Stepmania, because I used a different driver, PSXPAD. This pad rocks, but now there is another bad thing i found out. The BNS Ultra DX-Xtreme Dance Pad has Triangle and Square buttons in the lower left and right hand corners. I thought that there wouldn't be arrows there, because there is no graphic. But when I played I found out that the up arrow would be triggered with my foot was in the lower-left corner. Why would BNS add triangle and square buttons? |

I think I might have read that there was something bad about those pads. You should just buy a BNS Ultra Dx-Xtreme Dance Pad. |

I got my DPR2 pad modded today. I duct-taped it onto an 8mm thick fiberboard. The board is really cheap, at around $7.50 for a 4' X 4' piece. It's also surprisingly very strong and light. If anyone is thinking about taping a soft pad to a flat piece of wood, I recommend fiberboard. _________________

6'6 and 104? That's a broomstick. Did you typo?
I think you would be best storing your pads flat under your bed, and I think the chairmat mod is a good idea. I did that mod and it helped, but only a bit as the pads were already on their way out.. _________________

The RedOctane Ignition v2.0 Pad...improving my scores since 11:17 this morning. Trust me on this one. I had the Naki soft pad(with the square and triangle buttons) modded with plywood for the past 9 months. For the past month, I've cursed its name when I'm doing fast eighth-note runs and it doesn't register (Dead End, R&P, all Paranoias, etc.) and I get no combos above 50 or so. I just did Dead End Maniac with 37 greats, 3 goods, 1 almost and 2 misses. That's 6 misses in over 400 steps. Compared to when I could barely C it (last night even!), that's great! I am singing the praises of the Ignition 2.0. This is a great pad!
-Edit-Well, I've just proven this pad is great. I did the first 200 steps of Max300 in a single combo...then failed right after the freeze as usual, but that's my own fault. _________________

My RedOctane pad gave out in 4 months. These pads last for a while, but they suck to much. When ever I step on any arrow(Happens with every of my Redoctane pads), it doesnt register, and my up arrow doesn't register at all. Wierd.
Tip: Don't buy redoctane pads. _________________
