Metal Pad Discussion Part II

ive been thinking of getting a metal pad... but im not sure which to get... i know you said that u had 2 CG pads...... how much moding do those actually require? and are they alot better after modded?

Red Octane offers a "3rd party metal pad." I was wondering if anyone knew whose pad they are actually selling and if it is any good?

Also, other than putting it on plywood, what other mods would one suggest for such a pad? What do you connect it to the wood with, nails?

Well my CF Review as promised.

I got a CF for my birthday. OMGosh it's unbelievable. It's the first Hard pad I got after running through like 3 sets of ignitions. The sensitivity was great compared to the ignitions, and it didn't move. It is a little bit heavy, but that is easy for me to deal with because I just slide it under the couch.. LoL.. Lazy old me.. Anywayz I'm not sure if it's the pad or not, but I beat Max300 Heavy first try with a B rating. I think that's pretty good. The Durabilitiy of the pad is great. I went through a couple songs stomping on purpose just to see if anything would go wrong, and it didn't. Just made me tired =). It was constructed really nicely. Everything seems to be in place, and working.. unlike some of the complaints I've heard for BNS and MyMyBox. It doesn't seem like it will ever break. Plus the 6 month warranty kind of confirms the time put into the pad, and the craftmanship. Oh, about the 6 month warranty. YeA! It's cool that they actually have a warranty unlike the rest of the copmanies. Next, it is visually appealing (IMO). I think it looks great and the colors are nice. The CF Logo in the middle looks pretty cool and I like how the start and select are at the bottom. One final note is the customer service is great. They have a forum where you can ask questions and Vance will take the time to answer all the questions he can, even to things like when your pad would be arriving. So out of 100, I'd give it a uhh.. 100.

I just got my CF pad today and just finished trying it out. I didnt actually try Max 300 like you did LiLDDRKiD... but on the songs that I am able to play I did very well and the pad responded great.

I agree with everything LiLDDRKiD said in the review and will back it up 100%.

Im really excited, I purchesed my CF pad a few days ago, if everything you guys say is true, im gonna have a hella good time. The next question is what version of the game to buy. I think i will buy them all!

On the first page of this thread the poster stated that buying online is a "buyer beware" type situation. I have learned this the hard way. I bought two metal CG pads. $260.00. One of them didn't work, so I sent it back. +$50.00 shipping= $310.00. Three weeks later, I get the so-called replacement pad, which is a "hard" pad by dance performance with eight circular arrows. I have a feeling that this light plastic pad sucks buttocks, and would not be an equal to the CG pad I had paid for. Is it a decent pad, or should I just send it back? I'll post this on the soft pad discussion as I'm asking about something that's not a metal pad at all, but really isn't a soft pad.

Thanks for your response. How would I go about asking for free shipping? This will make the second time I've ever sent anything back, and I don't know how to demand that they pay shipping. Should I just say "Hi. The pad I received was a completely different pad. After already paying $50.00 for shipping the pad back the first time, I don't feel I should have to pay again for some thing that isn't my fault. Thank you very much." Is that all right? Should I threaten negative feedback?

Send them your "nice" e-mail first, and that should convince them to pay for shipping. If it doesn't, then I would threaten them with negative feedback. Be nice first, though.

Ok I finally got my CG metal pad!

But, I have read posts from a few people that talk about rubber legs on the bottom. Well... my pad dosen't have any rubber "legs"; at least none that I can see. It does however have a black rubber/foam sheet thing on the bottom of it. It has 8 screws through it, one on each corner and one between each corner. It also seems like it's glued to my pad. I figure that this is probably what evreybody had posted about, but I don't want to take any risks.

Can someone please tell me if that is what you were referring to.

No, those aren't the "legs" we were reffering too. You can leave that rubber on, as I don't think it warps your pad at all. Playing on carpet, however, will warp it.

ok folks:
I got my MMB pads the other day and after a little while playing them, the side of the down arrow started to bend. There is no supposrt by the edges of the pad. i fix this i cut a dowl down to 1/2" and put a bunch on the bottem. If anyone else has that probably, just make new feet.

Did anyone elses pad make weird sounds when they got it. Mine squeaks and rattles and stuff. Everything's tight, too.
(and I hate being sick the day my new pads come)

Thats a Cyphergames pad... please see the first page of the thread for more info. Looks like you paid quite a bit for that... www.levelsix.com is 1/2 as much.

When I got my MyMyBox metal pads, they made god awful noises the way yours are. That will pass as the pads will wear out. My word of warning, though. If you tightened stuff up, made sure that you didn't overtighten the screws that hold on the rubber feet. Otherwise, the screws WILL protrude and break the copper sensor grid. Believe me, once that happens, it's harder than hell to make the pads the same.
